Mountain Pepper (Tasmannia lanceolata ) is a perennial shrub native to South Eastern Australia. Large natural stands are found in cool moist areas in Tasmania providing a reliable and sustainable source of material for extraction. Plantation production using selected clones with superior vigour and chemotype, with morphology suited to mechanical harvesting has recently commenced.
The leaves are solvent extracted to produce a dark green viscous product which possesses a fresh, spicy aroma overlaying a peppery background.
A large number of volatile terpenoid compounds characterize the extract with the oxygenated sesquiterpene polygodial being the most significant component.
Mountain Pepper is available as a concrete and absolute.
